About the RPCV's of Houston

You have found the Houston Area Returned Peace Corps Volunteers website. Our group started in 1985 and has been going strong for over 40 years.

Our Purpose:

Support Peace Corps 3rd Goal helping to foster Americans' understanding of international cultures. We do this through

*education, speaking in schools and at recruiting events.

*supporting newly returned volunteers with information, social, and career advice.

* bring together Returned Peace Corps Volunteers for sharing experiences with each other and the American Public. We offer many social events (Happy Hours, Reconnects, Camping Trips, Story Slams)

*offering volunteer opportunities for Houston and Texas RPCVs joint participation. (example: over 20 all-Texas-RPCVs ran a Rest Station for the MS-150)

*assisting currently serving PCVs in helping to support their in country projects.

Did you know? When our group started in 1985, we attempted to model ourselves after the National group. They were called the National Council of RPCVs and later changed to NPCA. There were few groups in the mid 80's, so we had members from Florida to Corpus Christi. So, that is how we got our official name, Gulf Coast Council of Returned PCVs. Now, as we have many returned groups around the country, we have changed our name to Houston Peace Corps Association.

GCC Board (Positions are for 2 years with half the positions rotating off each year*) We will miss Katie, Elizabeth and Demetra whose terms ended 12/25.
